Biography of Mr. Sachin Pilot

Mr. Sachin Pilot is the son of Late Sh. Rajesh Pilot and Mrs. Rama Pilot, both leading public figures and parliamentarians, and was born on September 7, 1977.

 

At 26 years of age, he became the youngest MP upon his election from Dausa, Rajasthan in 2004.  After his re-election from Ajmer Parliamentary Constituency in 2009 he became Minister of State (MoS) in the Ministry of Communication & Information Technology and later he became Minister of State (Independent charge) of Ministry of Corporate Affairs. During this time, he was the youngest minister in the cabinet. Mr. Pilot was selected as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2008. He is a keen sportsman and has represented Delhi State in a number of National Shooting Championships. Mr. Pilot holds a private pilot's license (PPL) from NY, USA, which he earned in 1995. While serving as a Minister in the cabinet, he became a commissioned officer in the rank of Lieutenant in the Territorial Army, the first ever and the only minister to do so, upholding the family tradition of serving the Indian armed forces.

 

In the year 2013, he was appointed as the President, Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee and worked extensively to re-energize congress party in the State.  Under his leadership, the congress party won the assembly elections held in 2018. Presently, he serves as the Deputy Chief Minister of the State, and continues to be the State Congress President. Ministries of Public Works, Rural Development and Local Self-Government, Science and Technology, and Statistics report directly to him.

 

Mr. Pilot travels extensively, especially to remote and interior areas of the India. He takes a keen interest in issues that affect farming community and youth. He has been instrumental is pushing forward hunger and malnutrition to the forefront of the policy agenda for several years now through a broad-based, non-partisan initiative.

 

He holds a Bachelor’s degree from St. Stephen’s College (University of Delhi) and an MBA Degree from Wharton Business School (University of Pennsylvania, U.S.A).
